FAQs

Why should I upgrade to full fibre?

If you’re connected via Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) technology, your service uses copper and fibre to get you online, which can slow down your internet connection.

Upgrading to full fibre, also known as Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), gives you access to a faster, more reliable internet connection, as well as your pick of our fastest internet plans. Plus, it’s free to upgrade!

Will there be any downtime?

Whether you’re an existing customer or new to Leaptel, we’re committed to keeping you online while you wait for your Fibre Upgrade.

If you’re an existing Leaptel customer, we’ll keep your existing service connected until your Fibre Upgrade is complete. Once your full fibre service is active, we’ll cancel your previous service within 7 days.

If you’re new to Leaptel, you can choose a transitional plan when signing up for the Fibre Upgrade. This will keep you connected via FTTN/FTTC while your Fibre Upgrade is in progress. It also means that if you’re switching from another provider, we’ll be able to ensure your service with them is cancelled. Once your upgrade is complete and your full fibre plan is active, we’ll cancel your transitional plan within 7 days.

To select a transitional plan to keep you connected during the upgrade, simply select Yes when signing up.

What if I’m switching from another provider?

If you’re transferring from another provider and you don’t choose a transitional plan when signing up, we won’t be able to cancel your service with them. Once your Leaptel full fibre service is active, you’ll need to ask your provider to cancel your old service.

Please note: Before switching to Leaptel, please check the cancellation terms with your current provider as they may require a cancellation notice period.

Can I upgrade to fibre if I am renting?

Yes you can, but you’ll need to make sure that you have the landlord or property manager’s verbal or written permission before the installation appointment. The technician may need to do work that will need approval, such as drilling into the property walls.

What is actually being installed?

The nbn® approved technicians will install the following equipment at your property:

1. nbn utility box (also known as a PCD). This will be installed on an external wall of your property.

2. nbn connection box (also known as an NTD). This will be installed on an internal wall at your property. The location can be discussed with the technician during the installation appointment.

Is there a minimum term for the Free Fibre Upgrade?

There is no minimum term on this offer. For more information on the Fibre Upgrade and eligible plans, please see our Terms and Conditions.

Are all addresses eligible to upgrade?

Fibre Upgrades are only available for Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) addresses. nbn® are gradually adding more addresses to the Fibre Upgrade footprint. If your address is not yet eligible, you will need to wait until nbn® adds it to the footprint. Once your address is eligible, we’ll send you an email to let you know.

Can I keep both my old and new service active?

In short, no. Once the upgrade is complete and your full fibre service is active, we will swap you over to your new service and your previous or transitional plan will be cancelled within 7 days.
